If you suffer from insomnia, valerian root may be the cure for you. Valeria root is a major component in many European sleep aids and has also been shown to help with restlessness and anxiety. Try taking 150 to 300 milligrams of standardized extract of valerian root a half an hour before bed. Valerian is non habit-forming and does not create the strange "morning-after" effect that comes from most prescription sleep aids. Always start with the smallest amount and see how your body responds to the herb. Only increase the amount if the desired results are not achieved, yet you still feel some benefit from the herb.
